Tip 1: Check Oil Levels
It is crucial you regularly check your car engine oil level as a lack of oil can cause stress on the engine and even cause you to break down. The oil level can be checked using a dipstick, make sure the car has been sat stationary on a level surface for at least five minutes for an accurate reading. Remove the dipstick and clean with a cloth, then place it back inside and remove once again. Ensure that the oil levels are between the maximum and minimum mark.
Tip 2: Tyre Pressure
Make sure you check your tyre pressure; under-inflated tyres will reduce your mpg and use up to 3% more fuel then correctly inflated tyres. If you are unsure of what the correct pressure is for your car then you can usually find the information inside the petrol cap or on the door sill.
The best place to check your tyre pressure is at a petrol station forecourt. If the psi reading is below your cars recommended pressure then you will have to inflate the tyres, if you put too much air in the tyres then press in the central pin on the tyre valve and the air will be released. Remember to also keep your spare tyre at the correct pressure.
Tip 3: Check Engine Coolant
It engine coolant levels are low the engine can overheat which can cause severe damage. You should check your coolant levels every two weeks or if you are intending on driving a long journey.
To check the coolant level you will have to locate the coolant reservoir, the user manual will show where it’s located in the engine bay. Check the fluid is between the maximum and minimum marks.
If you have to add more coolant ensure that the engine has cooled down before removing the cap
