Situated in the North West of England, to the south west of the Pennines, Manchester is a city home to almost half a million people and is the seventh most populated city in England. Today Manchester is a hub of commerce, media and the arts and forms part of the English Core Cities Group, being named as the second city of the UK in 2002. Tourism is also a major sector of Manchester’s economy, with the city attracting the third most foreign visitors in the UK. In regards to sport, two of the Premierships biggest clubs are based in Manchester, City and United, and 2002 saw the city host the Commonwealth games.
