A young boy from Oxford has been awarded £1 million in compensation after he was left brain damaged. The boy suffered from the catastrophic injuries due to difficulties during his birth. The significant impact on his life now means he will require full time care for the rest of his life. Dontay Crooks aged six has been awarded the compensation by the responsible NHS Trust on behalf of The John Radcliffe Hospital. The youngster will receive annual payments for the rest of his life in order to fund the care that he will require. The results of the medical negligence include Dontay suffering from cerebral palsy and as a result of this he requires constant care. A spokesperson stated on behalf of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust that it hoped that the compensation settlement would allow Dontay to reach his full potential in the future. The compensation package that has been agreed will see Dontay receiving £50,000 per year until he is eleven and at this point the compensation payments will rise to £80,000. Once Dontay reaches eighteen the payments will increase to £140,000 and these will continue for the rest of his life. The lawyer working on behalf of the family stated that she was delighted with the agreement and stated that this would now allow the child’s mother to live without the stress of going to court. The hospital has confirmed that a compensation settlement has been agreed and that it has been approved by the High Court.
