Groin Injury Claims

What is a groin injury?

A groin injury is any injury to the area between your abdomen and upper-thigh. There are muscles in the groin which allow you to move your legs – damage to these can sometimes make it difficult for you to walk, run or bend your legs as normal. The symptoms of a groin injury can include: pain and swelling around the groin or inner thigh and popping noises when stretching or bending – all of which can be very uncomfortable.

Unfortunately, this means a groin injury can be very limiting – during your recovery, you may have missed out on hobbies and social events, as well as having to take time off work. The physical pain of this type of injury can also affect your mood, especially if you’re stuck at home.

You don’t deserve to suffer because of somebody else’s negligence, which is why a specialist solicitor can help you make a compensation claim to cover the costs of your injury.

For more information about making a claim, or to take the first steps, speak to a trained legal adviser for free on 0800 234 6438.

Hernias

Hernias can develop in the groin from heavy lifting at work, and this type of injury often requires surgery.

In many cases, hernias can take some time to develop, so you might not know you’ve been injured straight away. For this reason, you might still be able to make a claim within three years of realising your injury was caused by somebody else’s negligence.

There are two types of hernia:

  • Femoral hernia: this type of hernia appears as a swelling in the groin. They’re usually symptomless until they become ‘stuck’, after which they can become very painful and may need surgery straight away
  • Inguinal hernia: this type often increases in size and becomes worse if left untreated

Could you make a groin injury claim?

The quickest and easiest way to find out whether you could make a claim is to speak to a legal adviser for free on 0800 234 6438. They’ll ask some questions about your accident and injury, and will then be able to pass you on to a solicitor if they think you have a case.

It’s likely you can make a claim if your accident happened in the last three years and was somebody else’s fault. Sometimes it can be difficult to know for certain whether your accident was caused by someone else, but your legal adviser will be able to help.

Below, we’ve listed some examples of the types of accidents you could make a claim for:

  • Accidents at work – your employer may have failed to give you the proper equipment or training needed to carry out heavy lifting. This can cause tears or ruptures in the muscles in the groin area, and hernias in the long-term
  • Medical negligence – surgical errors, misdiagnosis of groin injuries, and poor standards of care and treatment can make your condition worse
  • Road accidents – accidents as a driver, passenger, cyclist or motorcyclist can cause severe groin injuries. You could make a claim if your road accident was somebody else’s fault, or if it was caused by poor road maintenance
  • Sports injuries – gyms should make sure equipment is safe for use. For example, if a weight or exercise machine fails then this can cause severe injuries, including damage to the muscles in the groin

Multiple injury claims

Groin injuries can be incredibly painful alone, but suffering from more than one injury at the same time can make your recovery even more difficult and long-lasting.

Because of the location of the groin and the types of accidents which usually cause injuries in this area, it’s quite common for you to suffer from more than one injury as a result of the same accident.

For example, you may also have suffered from damage to the bones, ligaments and muscles in the thigh, knee and legs. Road accidents are a particularly common cause of multiple injuries because of the speeds and forces involved in a collision.

An expert injury solicitor will take all of your injuries into consideration when processing your claim and calculating your compensation, so you’ll be covered for all the impacts it’s had.

How compensation can help

Making a claim might seem like a hassle when you’ve already got a lot on your plate. But, at a very difficult time in your life, compensation can help to relieve the financial pressure.

As well as covering the costs of lost earnings from time off work while you recover, your compensation will also allow you to access the private medical treatment and care you need without having to worry about being left out-of-pocket.

Any injury can also have an emotional impact as well as a financial one. That’s why your solicitor will make sure you’re covered for your pain and suffering, as well as the affect your injury has had on your social life and family.
